If you’ve been watching the House of Dragons and want to make an elegant drink for the season finale, let me introduce you to the Negroni Sbagliato. This ruby-red, bubbly cocktail just so happens to be Emma D’Arcy’s favorite drink.
This cocktail is incredibly simple to make and I have to agree with Princess Rhaenyra, this may be my new favorite way to drink a Negroni. Between the vibrant hue and the Prosecco, this cocktail is refreshing and just plain fun to drink. It reminds me of a French 76, but with more color and cherry, clove and cinnamon notes from the Campari.
What is a Negroni Sbagliato?
A Negroni Sbagliato is a riff on a classic Negroni cocktail that’s made with Campari, vermouth, and Prosecco instead of gin. Sbagliato means “mistaken” or “broken” in Italian, which is a reference to breaking the traditional negroni recipe by replacing the gin with sparkling wine.
If we are following the classic ratios this should be an equal parts cocktail, but I prefer to use more Prosecco than vermouth and Campari. Of course, you should feel free to adjust according to your tastes.
You can serve a Negroni Sbagliato in any kind of glass, but if you want to serve it like Negroni, serve it on the rocks in a lowball glass. Or you could do something fancier as a nod to Princess Rhaenyra’s royal status. Somehow I just can’t see her sipping this drink from a lowball.
Cocktail Ingredients
You only need 3 ingredients to make this cocktail:
- Campari – A red Italian liqueur that is a little bitter with notes of orange peel, cherry, clove, and cinnamon.
- Vermouth – A fortified wine flavored with herbs and spices like cardamom, citrus peel, and coriander.
- Prosecco – An Italian sparkling wine.
How to Make a Negroni Sbagliato
Making this elegant cocktail is super simple. Here’s how to do it:
- Prep your glass of choice by adding ice if you want to serve your Negroni Sbagliato on the rocks.
- Pour in the Campari and Vermouth.
- Fill the remainder of your glass with Prosecco.
Voila! You just made a Negroni Sbagliato. 🙌 If you want to be extra fancy, garnish your drink with an orange peel slice.
