This Green Tea Highball cocktail is made with freshly brewed green tea and whiskey. Served in a highball glass with ice, it’s a refreshing sip that’s easy to make.
If you’re looking for a new cocktail to cool things down during the summer heat, this green tea highball may be your new favorite sip. It’s boozy, refreshing, and easy to make in mere minutes. (Not counting the time required to chill the tea.) It goes with light, hot-weather snacks like pico de gallo salsa and some crunchy chips, or strawberry bruschetta.
Unlike a green tea shot or a white tea shot – neither of which is actually made with tea – this cocktail actually does have green tea in it. Does that make this a healthy cocktail? I’m not sure such a thing exists, but there are antioxidants in this drink to balance out the whiskey. Make of that what you will! 🙂
What is a Green Tea Highball Cocktail?
A green tea highball is exactly what it sounds like: a cocktail served in a highball glass that’s made with green tea. When making this drink you’ll use equal parts green tea and whiskey, then top everything off with club soda. This drink is served chilled with ice cubes or an ice spear.
Recipe Ingredients
Here’s what you’ll need to make a green tea highball. Be sure to scroll down to the recipe card for specific amounts.
- Green tea – Brew a cup of green tea (not matcha) according to the package instructions, then set it aside to cool or chill it in the fridge. Any brand of green tea works.
- Whiskey – You can use your favorite brand of whiskey, though if you can find it Japanese whiskey is popular to use in this drink. Suntory Toki is one of the easier-to-find brands in the US. It has a silky, subtly sweet-and-spicy finish that goes nicely with green tea.
- Club Soda – This is not the same as seltzer. Club soda is infused with mineral salts to enhance its flavor, whereas seltzer usually doesn’t contain added minerals.
- Ice
- Garnishes – I like to use a sprig of fresh mint leaves and a lemon wedge.
