These refreshing Strawberry Daiquiris are ready in minutes! An easy frozen cocktail recipe ideal for sipping in the sun on hot summer days.

If summertime heat is kicking into high gear in your neck of the woods, might I suggest a frozen cocktail? This Strawberry Daiquiri only needs a handful of simple ingredients and is ready in minutes thanks to your handy-dandy blender. Just add some fresh strawberries for garnish, pop a straw into your hurricane glass and start sipping! You can also use this recipe to make a refreshing Miami Vice drink. 🍹

Why You’ll Love This Strawberry Daiquiri Recipe

  • Easy. All you have to do is slice some strawberries, add all your daiquiri ingredients to a blender, and blend. Then pour and start sipping. That’s it!
  • Flavorful. This easy cocktail has bright strawberry flavor with notes of citrus, mango and coconut from the lemon juice and rum. It’s super tasty.
  • Refreshing. Is there anything more refreshing than a frozen drink on a hot summer day? I think not.

What is a Daiquiri?

A daiquiri is traditionally a rum-based cocktail made with lime juice and sweetener. It is named after a beach near Santiago de Cuba, where it was supposedly invented by an American engineer named Jennings Cox during the Spanish-American War. He was in Cuba and working at an iron mine near the beach. The original form of the drink was served in a tall glass that had been packed with cracked ice. Sugar, lime juice and rum were squeezed over the ice and voila, you had yourself a daiquiri!

Daiquiris were one of Ernest Hemingway’s favorite drinks and there is a variation named after him called a El Papa Doble. It is made with 2.5 jiggers of white rum, lime juice, grapefruit juice and maraschino liqueur, hold the sugar. “El Papa Doble” means “the double papa.” According to legend, Hemingway would always order two daiquiris at a time.

In contrast to the traditional daiquiri, a frozen daiquiri is made by pulverizing all the ingredients with the ice in a blender, and sometimes adding fruit like the strawberries we are using here. You can use other kinds of fruit, such a frozen mango, though you may need to adjust the amount of maple syrup in this recipe depending on how sweet the fruit you’re using is.

Are Daiquiris Strong?

I wouldn’t say that this frozen strawberry daiquiri is “strong,” but it isn’t light either. If you serve this recipe in two glasses then each serving will have 1/4 cup of 80-proof rum. (You can serve it in 4 smaller glasses if you prefer.)

Daiquiris don’t have a strong alcohol flavor so it’s best to be aware of how much booze is in the drink. I recommend sipping your daiquiri slowly over time. One too many could certainly sneak up on you.

What You’ll Need

Here’s a quick overview of what you’ll need to make a frozen strawberry daiquiri. Be sure to scroll down to the recipe card for specific amounts.

Equipment

  • Blender – You will need a high powered blender to make this frozen cocktail. I love my Vitamix blender, which I got on sale at CostCo years ago and is still going strong!
  • Hurricane Glasses (Optional) – Traditionally a daiquiri is served in a hurricane glass, which is a tall, tulip-shaped glass with a stem. But you could just serve your drinks in mason jars, no need to stand on ceremony! Depending on the size of your glasses this recipe will make 2-4 drinks.

Ingredients

  • Ice
  • Water
  • Maple syrup – You could also use agave or simple syrup.
  • Frozen strawberries
  • Fresh lemon juice – Don’t use the bottled stuff.
  • Fresh lime juice – Again, fresh is best!
  • Rum – Use a good quality rum, but it doesn’t have to be an expensive one. A top quality and more expensive rum would be something like Mount Gay Rum Black Barrel, but a bottom shelf inexpensive one would be something like Cruzan.
  • Kosher salt
  • Fresh strawberries – For garnish. Cut off the tops and slice them so you can affix them to the top of your glass.

How to Make a Frozen Strawberry Daiquiri

Even though a frozen daiquiri may conjure up images of relaxing on the beach at a fancy resort, this drink couldn’t be any easier to make. In fact, you only need 3 steps!

  • Prep the fresh berries. Remove the tops of your fresh strawberries and thinly slice them. These will be used for garnish.
  • Blend all the ingredients. Place all the ingredients except the fresh strawberries in a blender. Blend until smooth.
  • Serve. Pour into glasses, garnish with strawberries slices and serve with straws.

That’s it. 🙂

Tips & Suggestions

It’s pretty easy to make these frozen strawberry daiquiris, but it never hurts to have a few tips. So, here are my top suggestions:

  • Pulse your blender. Because there is ice AND frozen berries in this recipe, the daiquiri will be quite thick as you blend it. So pulse your blender and scrape down the sides a few times as you go.
  • Use a straw. It is difficult to drink a frozen daiquiri without a straw, so I highly recommend using one.
  • Too thick? As I mentioned above, this cocktail will be thick right after you make it. But this is on purpose because on HOT days, your cocktail is going to start melting fast. However, if this bothers you then you can add a bit of extra water to loosen it up.
  • Want to skip prepping the fresh berries? Some days you don’t even want to bother with slicing the fresh berries. (Been there.) You just want your cocktail, stat! In that case, just pop whole fresh berries onto the rim of your glass. No biggie!
