Classic strawberry shortcake dessert on a plate
Save Recipe

This strawberry shortcake recipe features homemade biscuits, whipped cream, and vanilla ice cream served with fresh strawberry sauce and more berries. It’s our favorite summer dessert!

To make in advance:

  • Vanilla ice cream: You can make it several days in advance, or use your favorite brand from the store.
  • Shortcake biscuits: These can be made the day before, or you can use store-bought.
  • Strawberry sauce: You can also make this a few days in advance and store it in the fridge until you’re ready to use it.

If you are using homemade whipped cream, make that right before you begin assembling your strawberry shortcake. Otherwise, just grab a can of your favorite canned whipped cream (I prefer Cabot).

Prep the strawberries. Cut off the green tops and then slice the strawberries. Set aside.

Assemble each serving of strawberry shortcake as follows:

  • Slice the biscuits in half. Place the bottom of a biscuit on a serving plate.
  • Top with strawberry sauce.
  • Place a few fresh strawberry slices on top.
  • Add a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
  • Spoon another layer of strawberry sauce on top.
  • Place a few sliced strawberries on top of the sauce.
  • Add another layer of whipped cream.
  • Top with the top of the shortcake.
  • Add whipped cream on top of the shortcake and top with a few slices of strawberry.
  • Drizzle more strawberry sauce on top of your shortcake, if desired. (I recommend this.)

Grab a spoon and dig in!
