This Among Us cake is perfect for gamers, birthday parties, or Halloween parties! This impressive vanilla cake is surprisingly easy to make.
For the vanilla cakes:
For the buttercream frosting:
Note. All ingredients should be at room temperature.
Prep your tools. Preheat the oven to 350˚F. Coat 3 (7-inch) round cake pans generously with butter, then flour, tapping out any excess flour; set aside.
Combine dry ingredients. In a medium bowl, mix flour, baking powder, and salt.
Cream the butter. In a large bowl, beat butter and sugar for about 5 minutes, using a mixer.
Add wet ingredients. Add eggs, one at a time. Then add buttermilk and vanilla extract, and beat until well combined.
Add dry ingredients. Pour half into the stand mixer bowl, mix, then add the remaining half of the dry ingredients. Beat at low speed until smooth.
Bake. Divide and pour the batter into 3 prepared pans, even tops with a spatula. Bake for about 25-30 minutes until the toothpick comes out clean and the cakes are golden.*
Cool. Remove from the oven, and let the cakes cool for 15 minutes before taking them out of the pans.
Make the frosting. To make the buttercream, add room temperature butter to a bowl. Beat for 5 minutes until it comes light and fluffy and becomes whiter. Start adding the confectioners’ sugar by one cup, beating after each addition. At the end add vanilla extract and the milk to thin out the consistency.
Color the frosting. Divide the buttercream into 2 equal parts. Then divide one of these parts into 3 more parts. Color the bigger part with black food coloring. Color the smaller parts of buttercream into desired colors – I chose pink, yellow and white. Transfer these three parts of buttercream into piping bags.
Assemble the cake. To assemble the cake, place a small amount of buttercream on a cake turntable to secure the first cake on top of it. Pipe pink buttercream onto the first layer. Then pipe the white buttercream, followed by yellow buttercream. Repeat with all colors to create a spiraled effect. Cover with the second cake and repeat the process. Top with the third cake.
Add the black frosting and sprinkles. Cover the cake with black buttercream. Smooth the buttercream, using a side scraper. Sprinkle the stars or other sprinkles over the cake.
Make Among Us characters. Use the fondant icing. Divide white fondant icing into small balls and, using food coloring, color these balls into desired colors. Sculpt the characters using your hands and some fondant tools. Then stick Among us fondant characters on the sides and on the top of the cake.
