Adios MF Drink (Blue Motorcycle Drink)

This easy Adios MF drink is not for the faint of heart! Made with 5 types of alcohol – plus lime soda, lemon wedges, and a maraschino cherry for good measure – this is a strong, yet refreshing blue cocktail.

There are some drinks that just beg to be tried. Sometimes it’s the name. Sometimes it’s the way a drink looks. Sometimes it’s both. This Adios MF cocktail definitely falls into the “both” category!

With a vibrant neon-blue hue, lemon slices, and a maraschino cherry, this colorful drink packs a serious, yet refreshing punch. It’s made with no less than 5 types of alcohol and about as strong as Long Island Iced Tea if you want a familiar comparison.

What is an Adios MF?

Adios MF is shorthand for Adios, Motherf**ker, which is the official name of this drink. It is bold, boozy, and beautifully blue thanks to the addition of blue curaçao. It is also known as an AMF Drink, Walk Me Down, Blue Motorcycle, and Blue Long Island Iced Tea. The drink was invented in the 1980s and is a riff on a traditional Long Island Iced Tea drink.

Whatever you call it, this is one BA drink. It takes confidence to walk up to the bar and say, “I’d like an Adios, Motherf**ker please.” But you know what’s even more BA than ordering a drink like this? Making it yourself.

What’s in this Drink?

Here’s a quick rundown of what’s in this cocktail. Be sure to scroll down to the recipe card for specific amounts.

  • 5 kinds of alcohol – Vodka, Rum, Gin, Tequila, and Blue Curaçao
  • Sweet & Sour Mix – You can also use simple syrup with fresh lime or lemon juice. (More details below.)
  • Lemon-lime soda – You’ll need enough to top off your glass. 7UP or Sprite work well!
  • Ice – For serving
  • Garnishes – Thin lemon slices and maraschino cherries

What is Blue Curaçao?

Blue Curaçao is a kind of Caribbean liqueur made with the dried peel of the Laraha citrus fruit, plus blue food coloring. If you can’t find it in the store, you can make it.

How Do I Make Simple Syrup?

It’s super easy! Just combine equal parts water and sugar in a small saucepan and bring to a simmer over medium-low heat. Whisk until the sugar has dissolved, then let it cool and pour the simple syrup into a mason jar with a lid. Store in the fridge for up to 1 month. If you are going this route, use 1/2 oz cold simple syrup and 1/2 oz fresh lemon or lime juice.

How to Make an AMF Drink

An Adios MF is usually served in a highball glass. It is also assembled in the glass, so you don’t need a shaker or any fancy equipment to make it! Here’s how to do it:

  • Fill a highball glass 1/3 with ice.
  • Add the vodka, rum, gin, tequila, and sweet & sour mix. Stir.
  • Add blue curacao. Stir briefly. Add a thin lemon slice.
  • Fill the rest of the glass with lemon-lime soda, such as lime Sprite or 7UP.
  • Garnish with a lemon slice and a cherry.
  • Serve cold!

Like the look of the AMF but want something less strong? Just use less of each kind of booze and more of the soda. (Also reduce the amount of sweet-sour mix or simple syrup so your drink doesn’t become too sweet.)
